You and Me

April 5th, 1999

About as likely as the strings
from two passing escaped kites,
tying a knot and finding themselves
flying in a whole new direction,
you and me.
About as believable as any greek myth
invented to explain something unseen,
but not one sliver less real
than the voice telling the story,
you and me.
About as common as a million monkeys
meeting on Wednesday in the computer lab,
to type and type and type until
Shakespear is given life again,
you and me.
About as valuable as the chance to say "I love you"
to those who leave before we realize
that it's okay to open up,
it may be all we ever really have.
You and me.
