You wake up from a nightmare
grasping reassurances that it wasn't real.
You convince yourself there's a distance
between reality and what you feel.
Yet the fear lives and exists
within a hidden corner of your mind...
no meaningful distinction
from reality that you can find.
Sleep may seem a boundary,
some sort of line drawn in the sand,
but that line is blurred so easily
with a flailing of a hand.
How then to retreat within
the comfort of reality dismissed,
when what happens with closed eyes
feels as feelingful as this?
